# コーヒーを撮ろう！コーヒーのある暮らしを取り続ける理由

私たちの活動テーマはコーヒーのある暮らしです。コーヒーが飲みたくなる空間や家での過ごし方を写真や映像を通じて表現するというもの。建築家でもカフェオーナーでもない私たちですが、「コーヒー」ではなく「コーヒーのある暮らし」としたことには理由があります。今回はその理由を一連の写真を通じて文章にしてみたいと思います。
## 自宅のコーヒーを撮りはじめる
10年前、まだ写真を始めてまもない頃のこと。初心者の僕にスタイルなどというものはなく、ただ無造作に撮った写真をインスタにアップする日々が続きました。「うちカフェ」や「インスタ映え」という言葉もない頃です。それでも物珍しさからか、最初から多くのフォローやいいねをもらうことができました。
そもそも写真を始めたきっかけは相方の弓庭（ゆば）の存在です。コーヒーと同じかそれ以上に家が好きだった彼女の個性もあって、後にうちカフェと呼ばれるような自宅の様子が一部の人々のあいだで受けていたのだと思います。
2015年に発売された拙著『うちカフェ（マイナビ出版）』。アジアでも翻訳され、発売国は、日本、台湾、韓国、香港、マカオ、シンガポールの6か国に
## 写真の表現がわからない
2015年の暮れにエッセイ風のコーヒーの本を出したあと、コーヒーを撮りにいくのは何か違うと徐々に思い始めます。美味しそうに撮ろうとすると僕のレンズはどんどんとコーヒーに近づきます。でも、近づけば近づくほど表現すべきことからは遠ざかるような感じがしたのです。感じただけでどうしたら良いか、当時はまだよく分かっていませんでした。写真をはじめて3年目の頃です。

cafenoma（カフェノマ）という屋号は活動の当初から決めていました。僕の会社がオトノマというので、コーヒーならカフェノマかなくらいのノリで決めたと思います。どちらも「マ」は日本語の「間（ま）」を表します。
ノリで決めたとはいえ、この「ま」のことを毎日考えました。写真も毎日撮り続けました。コーヒーを撮りにいくのは違うと感じつつ、「ま」とコーヒーの写真について考えを巡らすうちに、無意識に撮り始めた一連の写真があります。表現すべきコーヒーの写真が何なのか、そのキーワードを掴みかけたシリーズのような写真です。
## コーヒーのある静物の写真

この章の見出しのとおり、また、写真を見てお気づきかと思いますがこの頃に凝っていたのは油絵の静物画のような写真です。コーヒーからレンズは離れシズル感は消えましたが、その代わりに静かな印象のコーヒーの写真ができあがりました。そもそも広告写真のように依頼主がいるわけではないのですから、シズルにこだわる必要もありませんでした。遠慮せず自由に撮りたいように撮れば良いわけで、弓庭のインテリアへのこだわりもあり、コーヒーを撮りにいかない静物画のような写真が徐々に増えていきます。冒頭に書いた「コーヒー」ではなく「コーヒーのある暮らし」がテーマだとする理由。それを写真で表現するには、被写体であるコーヒーからレンズを遠ざける必要があったのです。
## コーヒーのある暮らしを撮り続ける理由
カフェノマが理想とするのは、心地よい空間に身をおいた時、ほっとして思わずコーヒーが飲みたいと思えるようなそんな日常を描くことです。10年間で1,500枚以上撮ってきた写真は、そんな理想に近づくための試行錯誤の痕跡です。いつも納得のいく写真ばかりではないのですが、理想に向けてこれからもコーヒーのある暮らしの写真を撮り続けていきたいと思います。今回も最後までありがとうございました。
