# 北欧の名窯から紐解く、コーヒーカップのバックスタンプ

北欧ビンテージといえば、[アラビア（Arabia）](https://cafenoma.style/articles/tag/arabia-finland?hsLang=ja)や[グスタフスベリ（Gustavsberg）](https://cafenoma.style/articles/tag/gustavsberg?hsLang=ja)などの食器類。カフェノマでも気に入ったコーヒーカップを見つけては、少しずつ手に入れ、コレクションしてきました。歴史ある世界的な窯元だけに、種類も豊富で見飽きることがありません。カップ表面の経年変化さえ、味わい深い印象を与えてくれます。
2012年、閉鎖される数年前に、二人で訪れたアラビアファクトリー
専用のカップボードにコレクションが増えていくうち、“面白いなぁ”と感じるようになったある特徴があります。それは、好きな方にはお馴染みのバックスタンプ。手書きのバックスタンプが施されたものもあり、その独特な風合いがコレクターの間で特に注目されています。
コーヒーカップの裏面に施されるバックスタンプは、窯元のロゴやシリーズ名、時にはデザイナーの名前まで表すことがあります。この伝統は、陶磁器がまだ高価で貴重な商品だった時代に遡るようです。製品が、“本物かどうか”という真正性を確認する手段のひとつだったと言われています。
長い歴史をもつアラビア（Arabia）やグスタフスベリ（Gustavsberg）のバックスタンプは、時代時代で形や内容が変化していきました。現在では、このことが器の年代を特定することにとても役立っています。
アラビアやグスタフスベリにも、さまざまなバックスタンプが存在します。
アラビアのベリス。バックスタンプのロゴは1971年〜1975年のカップに用いられました。製造時、ゴールドの縁どりはもっと鮮やかだったのだろうと想像しています。50年を経ていまでは色褪せ、そのことが、かえってシックで品よく落ち着いた印象を与えてくれています
アラビア イナリシリーズ。デザイナーはヨラン・ベック (Göran Bäck)さん。ブラウンの濃淡が見る角度によって毎回違った表情を見せてくれます。バックスタンプは、1975年〜1981年頃の製品に使用されたものです。
## カップの底に刻まれるバックスタンプの理由
そもそもなぜカップの底にスタンプを押すのでしょうか。個人的な見立ては以下のようなものです。１つ目は、使用者の普段遣いへの配慮から、使用時にスタンプが目に入らないように、２つ目に、アーティスト、デザイナーが、窯元から依頼されカップのデザインを考えるとき、スタンプがカップの表面デザインを邪魔することがないようにというもの。
[カフェノマオリジナルカップ](https://cafenoma.style/products?hsLang=ja)。写真のブルーグレイは、すでに終売となっています。このバックスタンプは判子で押したもの。工場で一つ一つ丁寧に手作業で押されました。
コーヒーカップの上絵は、いまでは手軽にプリントでき、デザインによっては安価に量産もできるようになりました。そのことで、さまざまなイベントや記念品として配られるケースもありますが、その際はバックスタンプではなく、むしろカップボディの一番目立つところにロゴが配置される場合もあります。
日常的に使うカップは、そのデザインや色合いを存分に楽しみたいものですよね。そんなときロゴマークがあると、時として必要以上に目につく存在になってしまうかもしれません。毎日の生活には、“自然に馴染むもの”が一番心地良いと感じます。

歴史あるバックスタンプをもつビンテージカップの数々。一度、その存在に気づくと、手に取るたびに裏返し、スタンプをしげしげと眺めてしまうことも。“いつ誕生したカップだろう？”、手書きのスタンプに込められた想いに思いを馳せながら、飾るだけではなく、普段から積極的に使って楽しんでいます。
