リビングの天井にあるシーリングファン。機能以上に、インテリアの一部として、もはや我が家になくてはならない存在になっています。ファンが静かに回転する様は、見ているだけでゆったりとリラックスさせてくれます。同時に、優しく風を運んでくれる、そんな存在です。

以前、香港の街中から少し離れたリゾートホテルに、休息のため入ったときのこと。ロビーのカフェで一息つき天井を見上げると、大きなシーリングファンが回っていました。その大きなファンのおかげか、生暖かい風もどことなく心地よい風にかわり、時間の流れもゆっくり感じたことを思い出します。

この経験がきっかけとなり、今住むマンションの天井にシーリングファンを設置したいと思うようになりました。幸い、間取りを含め自由に設計が可能だったのです。

照明もなく、シンプルなタイプの3枚羽のファン。シーリングライトを取り付ける部分があれば、自分で後付け可能です（オーデリックシーリングファン/高さ33cm　直径91cm）。

規格上の図面をみると、天井の高さは2500mmで、ファンを取り付けるにはちょっと高さが足りませんでした。それでも、その想いを諦めきれず、思い切って床を下げることに。なんとか交渉した結果、床を下げることも叶ったのです。

150mm下がった一段差のあるリビング。結果的にカウンターにあるスツールに座った際、この段差がちょうどよい足置き場になりました。

天井のシーリングファンを想定し、150mm下げたリビング。キッチンカウンター足元の出っ張りが元々の床底です。玄関から廊下を通り、段差のあるリビングに入ると、ぱっと視界が広がるような効果もあります。エアコン使用時はサーキュレーターとしても使えます。

このリビングに合わせて選んだシーリングファンは、小ぶりで高さも低く、限られた空間にピッタリのサイズ感のもの。優しい風を感じながら、ファンがゆっくりと回る姿を見るたび、あの香港のホテルで感じたリラックスした時間を思い出します。

Perched on the ceiling of my living room is the ceiling fan, which has become an indispensable part of our home, transcending its functional utility to an integral piece of the interior. The sight of the fan rotating quietly is a vision of tranquillity, effortlessly coaxing one into a state of relaxation. It exists as a soft purveyor of breeze, gently wafting through the room.

I recall a time when I visited a resort hotel slightly away from the bustling streets of Hong Kong, seeking respite. While catching my breath in the lobby café, I looked up to see a large ceiling fan in motion. Thanks to this sizeable fan, the lukewarm air transformed into a comfortable breeze, and I found myself perceiving time passing more slowly. This experience was the spark that inspired me to install a ceiling fan in the ceiling of the condominium where I live now, especially as I had the freedom to design the space to my liking.

The fan I chose is a simple model with three blades and no light attached. If there's a spot to attach a ceiling light, you can easily retrofit it yourself (Odelic Ceiling Fan / Height 33cm Diameter 91cm).

When I looked at the blueprint specifications, I found that the ceiling height of 2500mm was slightly insufficient for the fan installation. Still, unable to let go of this desire, I decided to take the bold step of lowering the floor. After some negotiating, my dream of reducing the floor height was realized.

The living room, now lowered by 150mm, has a step difference. As it turned out, when seated on the stools at the counter, this step serves as a perfect footrest.

Planning around the ceiling fan, the living room was lowered by 150mm. The protrusion at the foot of the kitchen counter marks the original floor height. Walking down the corridor from the entrance, entering the stepped-down living room gives a feeling of a suddenly widened view. The fan can also serve as a circulator when the air conditioner is in use.

The ceiling fan I chose for this living room is modest in size and low in height, a perfect fit for the limited space. Each time I witness the fan turning slowly, a gentle breeze brushing my skin, I'm reminded of that relaxed time I experienced in the Hong Kong hotel.
